Windsurfing: Rattray Bay, Aberdeenshire Wind Direction: N Wind Stength: 8-18 mph Surf / Sea State: Flat Air Temperature: Warm Sea Temperature: Warm Weather: Sunny Max Speed: Distance Covered:
Went up to Ratty Bay with Jim as there was no wind near Newburgh, but felt
the forecast suggested a little more up the coast. Wind direction was nice
and safe cross on from the left, and the water was pretty flat, the odd 2
foot wave coming in in little sets, but flat in between. The wind was
picking up to around 15-20mph when we arrived, so rigged up the 6.3m and
big board, but as soon as we got back onto the beach after rigging in the
car park the other side of the dunes, the wind started dying off - typical.
Anyway, we both went out as it was too nice a day not too, and just
pottered around and caught the odd wave in. It was perfect from Jim's point
of view as it was a real confidence booster as he hasn't really sailed on
the sea much and the first time he sailed this spot he struggled a bit and
had some problems with the currents and waves. I must say, though that
particular time was the only time the currents have been anything like
dodgy and haven't had problems here before or since.
